“Are you supported by the Government?”
Less than 20% of our operating budget come from federal, state and local government sources.
“Where do you get your money?”
The funds we use to operate our non-profit, low-income affordable housing comes mostly from rents paid by tenants and a few small grants. Our shelter and transitional housing is supported mostly by the Thrift Store and what tenants can afford. Funds for our charitable work, our Direct Aid, come from donations from individuals, local businesses, and the store. The city rents space for the Sobering Center.
“Do I have to be a Catholic to receive help?”
No, our mission is to help all people.
“Are you only in Juneau?”
We are just one arm of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, an international Catholic lay charity founded in Paris in 1832. You may notice thrift stores in other towns from Boise to Medford, OR, to Tucson. Our conference serves all of Southeast Alaska, but primarily Juneau. It was founded in Juneau in 1984.
