Accounting Technician

Salary Range: $25-$30 per hour DOE
The Accounting Technician is solely responsible for performing nearly all accounting functions for St. Vincent de Paul (SVdP) with minimal supervision by the Executive Director. SVdP uses QuickBooks for accounting and financial reporting and obtains some services from a local accounting firm to process payroll and tax returns. The duties for this position include analyzing and coding invoices and recording reconciling payables; collecting and depositing payments and receipts and recording and receivable accounts; preparing general journal entries and other adjustments; preparing and uploading supporting documents for entries to QuickBooks accounts, reconciling and monitoring accounts, programs or projects; and performing basic administrative duties. This position may also assist with fiscal year-end closing entries.
Our organization, mission, and culture: SVdP owns and/or manages five low-income housing units, a shelter, and a Thrift Store. Our funding sources include rental income, Thrift Store sales revenues, charitable donations, and grants. SVdP is a non-profit entity in Juneau whose mission is to provide material and spiritual charity, and work for social justice for all people.
To be successful in this position, a candidate will need to possess the following knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience:
- Thorough knowledge of basic accounting procedures and principles as well as the ability to apply that knowledge in an accurate and effective manner.
- Ability to locate and compile information, date or facts from designated sources with minimal oversight.
- Ability to perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals or percentages, with precision.
- Possess excellent clerical skills, be detail oriented, organized, motivated and dedicated to the job.
- Able to communicate clearly and concisely in both written and verbal formats.
Minimum Qualifications
One year of entry technical level accounting or bookkeeping experience.
Substitutions: Certification as an Accounting Technician from an accredited college will substitute for the required experience.
Post secondary education from an accredited college will substitute for the required experience (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month) if it includes at least 6 semester/8 quarter hours in accounting.
