St. Vincent de Paul hosts the sleep off portion of the Sobering Center for CCFR’s CARES (Community Assistance Response and Emergency Services) program in a portion of its old store at 8617 Teal Street. Originally focusing on the chronic inebriates who needed a place to sleep and be cared for, this program’s hours and role changed during the COVID crisis. CARES may be contacted at 907-321-2806.
To reduce demands on emergency services and the Bartlett Regional Hospital, hours expanded from 8pm to 8am to 24 hours a day as needed 7 days a week. The focus is serving the homeless, the chronic users of emergency services who need medical attention and supervision but not emergency services. We rent space to Capital City Fire and Rescue. This program frees the paramedics, emergency vehicles and hospital emergency services to deal with the serious accidents, heart attacks, strokes and other life-threatening emergencies within our community.
