“We are all called, and we are all in this together to serve others. We never felt like outsiders; we are all welcome.”

Neighbors helping neighbors.
That’s what the Society of St. Vincent de Paul is all about: caring people helping their neighbors in need of the most basic necessities.
“No work of charity is foreign to the Society. It includes any form of help that alleviates suffering or deprivation and promotes human dignity and personal integrity in all their dimensions.”
This quote is from a document called “The Rule” and is a guiding principle of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. Also central to our mission is the practice of visiting people in their home and spending time with them to thoroughly understand their needs and responding to those needs.
The Home Visit Team (HVT) is a group of volunteers affiliated with the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, St. Theresa Conference who learn about people in need through referrals, arrange to visit, and offer assistance to the best of our ability. Assistance often includes financial assistance, as well as help with household chores and transportation. A team of two people go on every visit.
Examples of basic needs where we might be of assistance include:
- Food
- Clothing
- Housing
- Heat
- Electricity
- Transportation
- Job application
- Home budgeting
Upon receiving a referral, we contact our neighbor to arrange a visit. Based on what is learned during the visit,
some direct aid may be provided, and future visits may be scheduled.
